Lotus Sutra Exhibition – Lectures & Speakers’ Profile

Public Lectures

To provide an appreciation and understanding of the message of the Lotus Sutra, academic experts in the field have been invited to hold Public Lectures over three Sundays at The Arts House, Chamber, from 2pm to 3.30pm. They will be covering topics related the exhibition’s message of promoting peace and harmonious coexistence. Below is the profile of the speakers.

Brief Profile:
Zhang Yuanlin is the Chief Librarian & Director, Comparative Research Center on the Silk Road and Dunhuang, Dunhuang Academy. Dr. Zhang’s research interests include Buddhist icons and icons of Dunhuang in relation to those along the Silk Road. His research currently focuses on the Lotus Sutra in the Dunhuang Grottoes.

Prof. Nirmala Sharma

Professor of Buddhist studies,
International Academy of Indian Culture

 

Lecture Topic: “DISSEMINATION OF THE LOTUS SUTRA
beyond sands, lands and seas”

Language: English

Brief Profile:
Prof Nirmala Sharma is an Art Historian and Tagore National Fellow at the National Museum. She is an expert on the studies of Kumārajīva and a Core member of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, where Dr Lokesh Chandra holds the position of President.

Prof Sharma is also the Trustee of The Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, member of the World Bodhidharma Centre, member of the Indian Art History Congress and Association of British Scholars.

Presently she is working on the Tibetan scrolls in the National Museum as a Tagore National Fellow. She has done two Masters: one in Fine Arts and the other in Ancient Indian History Culture and Archaeology.

Ambassador Mohammad Alami Musa

Head of Studies in Inter-Religious Relations in Plural Societies Programme (SRP), Nanyang Technological University

 

Lecture Topic: “One Reality, Many Beliefs”

Brief Profile:
Ambassador Mohammad Alami Musa is Head of Studies in Inter-Religious Relations in Plural Societies (SRP) Programme. He is concurrently Singapore’s non-resident Ambassador to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. Amb Alami also holds the appointment of President of MUIS Council (Islamic Religious Council of Singapore) and Singapore’s Honorary Business Representative for Middle East and North Africa.

He is an active promoter of positive inter-religious relations in Singapore and the region. He was involved in the research on Islam and its relations with other religions and the Religious Other. Regionally, Amb Alami was instrumental to start up efforts to promote Inter-Religious Relations.
